Spinal Decompression at Hollabaugh Chiropractic

person on decompression tableSpinal decompression is a state-of-the-art therapy that can be highly effective for acute and chronic disc pain. Offered as an adjunct to your chiropractic care, it helps to heal discs to reduce your pain and help restore mobility.

At Hollabaugh Chiropractic, we often recommend this therapy for patients who have suffered sports, auto or workplace accidents, as well as anyone with lumbar or cervical disc issues.

How It Works

Decompression therapy utilizes a special computerized table, which you will like on face-up. You’ll be harnessed to the table, and we’ll set the computer to apply the appropriate amount and angle of stretch for your specific situation.

Once you’re ready to go, we’ll start the table. It will gently stretch your spine and then release the stretch repeatedly for the length of your session. Treatments last from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on your individual needs.

Most patients find this therapy relaxing and enjoyable. To ensure your safety, you’ll have a stop button that you can hit at any time if you feel uncomfortable.

How It Helps

Vertebral discs are cushions between each segment of the spine. Healthy discs are donut-shaped and filled with fluid, but injuries and even the effects of gravity can compress the discs, causing the fluid to bulge out and press on nearby nerves, causing pain.

The stretch and release motion of the decompression table works to relieve pressure on the discs and increase the flow of fluids to the area to promote healing. The conditions it’s most helpful with are:
  • Disc bulges
  • Disc herniations
  • Cervical or lumbar stenosis
  • Facet syndrome
  • Whiplash
  • Radicular pain in the arms or legs
  • Chronic or acute conditions

Customized Care

Based on your specific situation, Dr. Jason will design a care plan to help you meet your goals. If decompression therapy can benefit you, he’ll incorporate it into your care plan. Typically, it involves a series of sessions (either 6 or 12 visits) that can coincide with your regular chiropractic adjustment visits.
